What is CEPA Integrity First®?

Integrity First is an industry-led program, established by CEPA, to enable our members to set competition aside and work together to improve their practices in three key areas: safety, environment and socio-economics.

CEPA members have a goal to reach zero incidents and build Canadians’ trust in the industry. Integrity First is the path to get there by continuously improving our industry’s performance in every stage of the life cycle of a pipeline and openly sharing industry performance and activities with Canadians.

Getting to zero incidents

Achieving a record of zero incidents requires industry-wide commitment to collaboration. Integrity First brings the industry together to define, share and implement leading practices that will improve overall performance.

Watch a short video on how Integrity First is driving continuous improvement in pipeline performance and accountability to build Canadians’ trust:

Beyond regulation

Through Integrity First, CEPA and our members are taking a proactive approach to demonstrate our accountability and transparency to Canadians. It’s about going beyond regulation and demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

This program is a condition of membership with CEPA. All 11 member companies are committed to the initiative and integrating Integrity First in their own operations.

In fact, every CEPA member has signed the Integrity First Policy Statement and Principles (PDF) as a commitment to:

  • Safety – protecting the health and safety of communities, workplaces and the environment.
  • Environment – Minimizing and mitigating our industry’s impact on the environment and biodiversity,
throughout the lifecycle of a pipeline.
  • Socio-economics – Sustaining relationships and mutual understanding with communities in regions
    where we operate.

Being accountable for performance

Accountability is key to the program’s success – both accountability within the industry and accountability to Canadians. Canadians have the right to know what operators are doing to keep pipelines safe and communities protected.Through regular public reporting, Integrity First will increase the industry’s transparency and accountability on performance and member activities.
