Energy connections: petroleum in our lives (and on our feet!)

Beyond the gas in your car and the propane tank for your BBQ, it can be easy to overlook how many oil and gas products are part of daily life.

But there are thousands of products made from petroleum – keeping us healthy, warm, active and looking our best!

These products have an important function in our daily lives, as does the critical infrastructure – transmission pipelines – that safely move the oil and gas that will eventually become products like eye glasses, pillows and even piano keys!

Look on your feet – you may be wearing petroleum right now.

The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association represents Canada’s transmission pipeline companies who operate approximately 117,000 kilometres of pipelines in Canada. In 2014, these energy highways moved approximately 1.2 billion barrels of liquid petroleum products and 5.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Our members transport 97 per cent of Canada’s daily natural gas and onshore crude oil from producing regions to markets throughout North America.
